GEo-Congress 2019 PredictionThe National GeoChallenge 2020 Student Competitions will be organized on February 26th, 2020 during the 2020 Geo-Congress at Minneapolis, MN.

GeoWall

The objective of the GeoWall competition is to design and build a model mechanically stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining wall using paper reinforcement taped to a posterboard wall facing. The design should strive to need the least amount of reinforcement to support the retained soil and design loads.

GeoPrediction

The objective of the GeoPrediction competition is to develop an accurate prediction of geotechnical behavior given detailed information regarding subsurface, boundary, and initial conditions, as well as the geotechnical/structural/hydraulic loading. This competition may involve using geotechnical software, empirical correlations, or developing a simple computer code for making this prediction.

GeoPoster

For the 2020 competition, the subject of the posters should be within geotechnical or geoenvironmental engineering. Some examples of acceptable poster topics include senior design projects, design class projects, or student research experiences. Posters should present original work by the student(s) but may contain content based upon work conducted under the direction of a professor.

GeoVideo

The objective of the GeoVideo competition is to develop short videos explaining various geotechnical concepts that could be used in classrooms at various levels (elementary school through college) and by the lay person to understand geotechnical principles.

The objective of the 2020 GeoShirt Design Contest is to design a t-shirt for students participating in the GeoChallenge competitions at Geo-Congress 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Student Travel Grant Winners Job Fair

Geo-Congress 2019 Career FairEach year, the Geo-Institute Organizational Member Council provides graduating students, who are Geo-Institute members, the opportunity to win a travel grant to attend the Geo-Institute Organizational Member/Student Career Fair at the annual conference.

This opportunity is open only to G-I student members.

Student Travel Grant Application 2020

Forty students will be selected by the GeoInstitute to receive a $300 travel grant to attend the 2020 GeoCongress and participate in the OM Career Fair, "Speed-Dating" style, during the 2020 Geo-Congress. To be considered for one of the stipends, students must first register for the Congress, and then complete and submit the Student Travel Grant Application by . Successful travel grant winners will be notified via email by . Checks will be mailed the week of , after the confirmed event attendance.
